AGED Care residents at Heathcote Health gathered last week for the unveiling of the new kitchen garden project.

Produce from the garden will be used in the kitchen to add extra flavour and freshness to residents’ meals.

“There was such a beautiful buzz around Heathcote Health this week as our residents gathered to see the unveiling of our brand new kitchen garden project,” said Heathcote Health CEO Jackie Kelly.

“The delight on their faces said it all; smiles, laughter, and plenty of excited chatter about what to plant first!

“Some residents were already sharing favourite recipes, others reminiscing about gardens they’ve tended over the years.

“And many simply soaked up the joy of seeing something fresh and full of possibility take root right here at HH.

“This project is about more than herbs, fruits and vegetables; it’s about connection, purpose, memories, and the simple pleasure of watching something grow.”

The kitchen team at Heathcote Health completed a 12-month Maggie Beer Foundation Trainer Mentor Program last year.

The garden is an extension of the program which aims to ensure aged care homes serve flavourful, nutritious food and deliver an enhanced dining experience for residents.

Ms Kelly thanked everyone involved with the garden for bringing it to fruition.

“A heartfelt thank you to our incredible Facilities and Maintenance Team for taking the time to truly listen,” she said.

“By liaising closely with residents and staff, they made sure the garden was designed with accessibility, comfort and enjoyment front of mind.

“Their thoughtful planning and collaboration have helped bring this vision to life.

“We can’t wait to see what grows; in the garden and in the smiles it continues to bring.”
