Cardamine quinquefolia is a lovely woodland spring blooming perennial plant that makes a dense groundcover in bright shade. The foliage appears in late winter and disappears by the heat of summer. The peppery tasting foliage is generally avoided by deer and rabbits and is edible (similar to watercress). Our patch makes an excellent filler between evegreen ferns, Helleborus, Hosta, Asarum, Azalea, etc. Zones: 6a to 8b, guessing.
