The Greeley Tribune’s 43rd Home and Garden Show is once again underway at Island Grove Regional Park.

The show, which kicked off Friday, will continue through the weekend. It will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

“It’s a nice way to kick off spring and get information out to people about different products,” Eaton Grove Nursery owner Ken Olsen said. “New kinds of plants, new seed varieties — all those sort of things.”

Olsen and Eaton Grove had been a staple of the Home and Garden Show since the early 1980s but missed the past few before making their return this year.

The spring kickoff looked much more like winter on Friday afternoon — but the snow didn’t stop thousands from flocking to Island Grove, 501 N. 14th Ave., in Greeley.

Jim and Lisa Mart, who have attended the annual event for many years, visited in search of window coverings. But their favorite booth they visited Friday was the one run by Warm Hugs Mixes & Gifts Boutique, which operates a storefront at 809 10th St. in Greeley.

“It was very interactive,” Lisa said. “The guy was joking with us, and we had a good time. Plus, he gave us samples of pumpkin bread.”

Hundreds of vendors, from home improvement to outdoor design to food to artisan crafts, line Island Grove for the weekend. While some are predictable — with plenty of chances to win free windows or improve landscaping — many are all their own.

After also visiting the Colorado Farm Show earlier in the winter, Tesla set up another booth this weekend.

“I love the setup with all the plants and everything, I think it’s beautiful,” Tesla salesperson Caliney Button said. “We’re just excited to be here.”

Button, and her Tesla compadre Jeremy Rakestraw, are offering demo drives of Tesla’s full self-driving features in both Model Y and Model 3 vehicles.

Another less-than-expected booth is manned by Miss Karrie Fahrenbruch, owner and CEO of the Northern Colorado Nightmare semi-pro football team based in Greeley.

Fahrenbruch and the Nightmare, founded in 2017, have been a staple at the last handful of Home and Garden Shows.

“This is always a big day on our calendar,” Fahrenbruch said. “I will meet the most interesting people across the course of three days. What’s even more cool is come summer, I’ll see people at games and they’ll say, ‘I remember you from the Home and Garden Show.’ ”
