Something I wish that was on care sheets that they give you when you get one for the first time… To see if they are thirsty, check the roots. This was the first thing I learned when I got to this sub. It's hard to visualize it sometimes if you're new to phals! To water, I let them sit/soak in water for about 30-60 mins, just up to the base, not covering the leaves/crown. No ice cubes! Don't listen to the super market guides!!

I agree 💯. Thanks for the visuals. I’m sure it’ll click for someone who does know.

I went to an Orchid show last month and started a chat with a stranger. She told me she has an Orchid and follows the directions and gives it 2-3 ice cubes a week. She said it’s doing great.

I told her they’re found in jungles and mostly humid climates…where’s the ice coming from? She said she never thought of it like that. I told her basically what you did. I hope she changes & saves the poor thing.

Nice, oddly enough I have some phals that don’t turn green once I water them. And I have some phals that never turned gray even when they need to be watered. Very weird.
