In this cottage garden project, I visit a Florida native nursery and add edible native plants like native blueberries and wild strawberries to my garden using containers and acidic soil. These Florida native plants help feed wildlife, support pollinators, and can even produce food for you.

I love Sweet Bay and the staff is amazing!
What brand is that soil? I’m trying to find it, but if I google “Just Natural soil conditioner I get lots of brands, but nothing that looks like your bag.
Love the sound effects 😊
This will be a good list to remember in the future when I'm in a bigger home. I'm a big believer in growing edible plant gardens don't have one at my current home but I think it's a worthwhile endeavor.
I love maypops. They have a juicy fruit gum like flavor. They are medicinal too. The leaves and flowers have hypnotic sedating effects that are great for anxiety, insomnia, and even can be used to help epilepsy. It's also useful as a treatment for barbiturate, opiate, benzodiazepine addiction and alcoholism withdrawal. It's very understudied, I'd take caution drinking leaf or flower tea if you take sedating medications but it's a beautiful medicinal to have around.
Where is this nursery? Bradenton?
Florida cottage garden!!!
Something that I've noticed and probably other people have noticed as well is that the large strawberries and blueberries that are in the grocery store seem to lack the natural sweetness and flavor that they're smaller or more wild or privately grown counterparts seem to have. So my question is which strawberries or blueberries pack that natural sweetness and flavor in comparison to the more bland and boring though very large grocery store counterparts?
OMG I want so many of those plants🍇🍓 🍯 🫙🍯 UV purchased!! My hubby would just divorce me if I came home w ur purchase today

Awesome list!! Some of my favorites. How did I not know Spiderwort is edible?? 🤯 Thank you!
Downhomebackyardgardening channel on YouTube just posted a video yesterday about growing blueberries in pots. He recommended watering with vinegar added to water to help keep soil acidic. Not sure if you've heard of this before?
Are any of those small blueberries able to grow in South Florida? Never heard of the seven year apple, but read that you need a male and female tree, and the fruits don’t taste very good.
I love that up here in Canada i have the same wild strawberries growing wild in my yard! Crazy that they are native over such a large range 😁 the fruits are very small, but they taste DELICIOUS!
Where are you filming from?
