I got this plant from a friend 6 months ago. I don’t know what I’m doing but it has been making new leafs this is the most recent one. I thought the spots might be normal but after some searching getting worried. Is it bad for the plant, what do I do? Any other advise is also appreciated.

Scale AND thrips
Probably scale and thrips. I used to take care of highly infested plants for a living. Either cut it all the way back to a stump, spray the roots and change the soil. Or sit is outside for the duration of the summer months – other predators such as lady bugs will come clean your plant for free.
