Peace lilies make stunning houseplants, but it’s frustrating when those elegant white blooms drop off shortly after bringing them home. Several factors can cause this, and occasionally, the plant might struggle to flower again.
Regular feeding throughout the growing season is essential to keeping your houseplant flourishing. Whilst there are various feeding methods available, many green-fingered enthusiasts prefer organic approaches, including using leftover coffee grounds.
Posting on the Gardening Tips and Tricks Facebook page, Alice Wallis shared: “Just wanted to tell everyone about how I’m feeding my peace lilies every year for repeat blooms.
“I use my coffee machine every day, and instead of binning the capsules, I open them up to get the leftover grounds.
“They take a few days to dry, but I’ll then sprinkle this around the base of the houseplant. Seems to be working well after my friend recommended it.”

Coffee grounds are packed with minerals and nutrients, including potassium, magnesium and calcium.
These are all vital plant nutrients that can support healthy growth.
Beyond scattering the used grounds on the compost, coffee grounds can also be mixed into water to provide an additional boost during watering.
Coffee grounds can equally be incorporated into the compost of a peace lily, particularly useful when owners are repotting their houseplant into a larger container.
Whilst they prove highly effective for certain indoor and outdoor plants, others – including lavender, rosemary and succulents – may struggle with the acidity levels.
Alternative natural fertilisers include banana peel, which functions similarly, supplying peace lilies with the nutrients required for healthy growth.
Remember to feed them exclusively during the growing season and avoid overdoing it, as excessive feeding could actually hinder their development.
