Our yard does not have good drainage, whatsoever. We've been dealing with this for years now, and I can't deal with the mud and water anymore. We have four dogs that run through it all. It takes days to two weeks for it to not be standing water. The bugs are always horrible in the warmer weather.
We cannot afford any sort of drainage to be added to the yard or anything along those lines. We can't really even afford someone to come out and take a look 🙁 I want to preface that at this point, I do not care if the grass dies off in these parts of the yard if it means we will not have mud issues. I have a flower garden in the back that doesn't have issues and I maintain the lawn there.
The second picture is hard to tell how much water is there, but our feet sink fully in when we step on it. The first picture is an old one, but a good example of how much water can be standing at one point.
I considered maybe doing pine needles or pine pellets, but these would not be safe for my dogs longer term as they like to eat things in the grass every once in a while. I've seen recommended doing barn lime to help dry it out and/or laying down sand over a longer period of time.
Would either of these be a stupid idea? I am at my wits end here and I'm hoping for some insight! We want to be able to use our backyard again.

Idk, but I love your wiener!
What’s your budget for trying to fix this? How much of your yard are you trying to fix?
The amount of sand you seem able to spend money on would do nothing if that’s your question.
Sand and perlite, aerate ahead of time if you can. Grass seed with a clover mix mixed in can help make it more resilient.
This would be a very bad idea. It’ll make the surface of your yard hard like concrete.
