So, I’ve had this monstera for almost ten years (since she was just a baby) and it’s been though a lot. Three rounds of thrips (sincerely, f*ck you), two moves in below freezing point temperatures etc, and during the last move (5 years ago) both steps snapped, and we thought that was that. But incredibly it stayed alive and kept growing, presumably getting its nutrition though the aerial roots?

Throughout the years I’ve been trying to stick to the basics, repot it occasionally, give fertilizer during the sunnier seasons, try to have humidifier close by etc and it generally has good light, but I’m now struggling with knowing how I should treat it best, and how it actually gets its nutrition.

Even though the stems snapped there’s still a dense nest of old roots left and I haven’t dared to fiddle with it too much (to avoid the risk of damaging roots) but I’ve noticed that the center of the pot almost never really dries out (I even check with a moisture stick) so I also worry about possible rot etc.

Does anyone have experience with a plant that isn’t really ”potted” anymore, or general advice on how I should treat it best? Should I try to just remove all old and possibly rotten roots and stick the aerial roots down in fresh, healthy soil?

This winter I saw more yellow leaves than I’ve seen before so I feel like something is up.

Thankful for any advice.
