||| FROM ORCAS ISLAND GARDEN CLUB |||
Please join the Orcas Island Garden Club on Wednesday, March 18th when we welcome Lori Ann David to share her expertise about PNW Winter Growing for Food Security – Harnessing the Power of High Tunnels and Greenhouses.
The PNW’s need for year round food security, supply, sustainability and nutrition will be aided by more people learning to grow food in high tunnels and greenhouses. These options will be covered as well as additional resources and techniques. The objective will be to make participants feel able to set up their own winter food producing system. A spark and a seed!
Aurora Farms is a polyculture food producer spanning over 100 acres on San Juan Island. By building soil naturally they produce high quality, pastured meats (beef, lamb, pork), produce (vegetables, berries and fruits), and herbs from their greenhouse and field crops year-round.

Their flowers and value-added products add to the bounty and beauty of the onsite BnB farm stay, seasonal dinners, events, education, tours and more. They also have a farm store on site that is open all year and weekly orders, specials, and pre-orders. No artificial chemicals, additives, pesticides, herbicides, hormones, antibiotics—zero—only what nature provides to ensure the nutritional quality of the food produced.
The farm store is open with seasonal hours posted on their Facebook and Instagram pages. Give them a follow to stay up to date!
Lori Ann David is the owner/operator of Aurora Farms LLC, a 106-polyculture year-around operation on San Juan Island, WA. Backed by over 4 decades of richly varied agricultural experience in livestock, produce and vegetable, herb, flower and fruit production, she “retired” to create specialty winter growing in the PNW by remaking an old farm and revitalizing another abundant winter grazing ranch, and putting up 3, 20’ x 120’ greenhouse, a propagation house, and a winter poultry area converted to specialty tomatoes, she has continued to grow Aurora Farms and champion island sustainability, first source local food year around, high tunnels, greenhouses, composting and the important value of livestock/rotational grazing for the full fertility of our lands. Her passions are stewarding in new farmers, cooking, making large sculptures, and aviation.
