Hi all,
I want to preface with saying that I grow dahlias for fun because I find them beautiful and because I love flowers. I’m looking forward to growing ca 30 dahlias this upcoming season.

I recently listened to a couple of episodes of The Dig on Dahlias podcast, where they talked about the viruses prevalent in dahlias and the extremely high percentage of dahlia mosaic virus (DMV) in the plants and tubers on the market. They talked about testing, disposing of diseased plants, etc. Which is all cool for those who sell, hybridize etc. But what are casual growers supposed to do with this information? Testing is prohibitively expensive for me, and I assume for most people. I don’t want to spread any diseases. I want to continue growing dahlias. Would appreciate any advice.

This is an automatic reminder regarding r/dahlias Rule 3:
When reasonable*, posters should make a good-faith effort to identify which variety/varieties are shown in their photo(s). If you don’t know for certain, please say so. Someone will usually know!
*Common-sense exceptions to this rule will be honored, such as if the photo does not contain a blossom, or if your photo contains large volumes (such as in wide field shots).
If you’ve already done this, thank you! No further action required.
If not, please add a reply to this comment and confirm if you know the name of your dahlia variety/varieties shown in the photo(s). Alternately, if you’re uncertain of the variety name(s), it’s ok to say that, too.
