Last year, shoppers flocked to buy an eye-catching garden furniture set from Habitat thanks to its colourful design, “comfortable” seats and purse-friendly. I experienced the popularity of this first-hand, when it felt like the garden set popped up on several of my neighbours’ balconies in various shades throughout spring and summer.
Now, the set is back in stock at Habitat and Argos, and it could be just as sought-after this year. Granted, we’re not quite in those balmy, linger-outside-until-dusk days just yet, but the spring sunshine has already peeked its head out. It won’t be long before the evenings stretch out and the thermometer starts to climb. And the last thing you want is to be caught in a last-minute scramble for new garden furniture when all the best deals have already sold out.
If you’re on the hunt for an affordable outdoor seating set and love a pop of colour, Habitat’s Cali Four-Seater Metal Patio Set is a strong contender. It includes an outdoor sofa-style seat with room for two to sit comfortably, as well as two chairs and a garden coffee table — everything you need to create a cosy corner.
The set comes in a bright, bold tangerine orange that practically shouts “summer”. And compared to similar sets like Dunelm’s Singapore Four Seater Conversation Set (£244), it’s a solid bargain.
The total weight of the set is 24kg, so it should feel reassuringly sturdy. In the reviews, some customers have described it as very “comfortable”, with many praising its “high quality”.
In a review, one customer said: “Beautiful and comfortable. We get so many compliments on it every time we have guests.”
The table measures 39cm high, 45cm wide and a very generous 85.5cm long — ideal for drinks and nibbles. The legs can also be removed, making it easier to store when the weather turns. However, one reviewer noted that the Textilene material on their chairs and bench had arrived frayed and had to be returned.
It’s unusual for Textilene to be easily damaged, as the woven mesh fabric is made from polyester with a PVC coating. This combination is said to make it durable, fade-resistant, and easy to wipe clean. It’s also resistant to mildew and the elements, which is why it’s such a popular choice for outdoor furniture.
The main gripe from customers is that several people found it tricky to put together. One shopper said: “It’s fine for the price. A little bit fiddly to put together (use a light touch and electric tools if possible), but once assembled they sit fine.”
Another person recommended roping in a second pair of hands rather than attempting a solo build.
That said, the assembly experience seems to vary. Another shopper wrote: “I love this set. I must admit I was worried about assembling since I’ve seen so many reviews pointing out it’s hard, but I am actually confused. What was so difficult about it? Perhaps that you need to balance some pieces above the ground to align, but I assembled the full thing by myself (female 37y) with a glass of vino in my kitchen in the middle of the night.”
