I usually wait until after spring growth, but feel that’s wrong. Also had some dead spots 2 years ago.

    Tbh they are past their lifespan… so if you trim deep they might not grow back. Trim the green very lightly. Maybe only trim across the front because of the walkway and let them grow taller, that might give them a little more vigor.

  3. I’d let em cook for a few months. They look aged and hollow. See how much fresh growth they’re able to put on between now and late spring/ early summer to hide some of those crispy bits. I wouldn’t trim them any smaller than the point they’re at now or you might just make those big holes grow
