For International Women’s Day, Victoria Butterfly Gardens is hoping to inspire the next generation of female scientists.
Visitors on Sunday, March 8, are invited to experience Women in Science – a one-day event bringing engaging talks and tour sessions to life led by Victoria Butterfly Gardens experts and visiting women scientists.
“Representation in science inspires the next generation, and our Women in Science event celebrates diversity, learning, and stewardship on International Women’s Day,” said general manager Ronalea Durrance in a news release. “This event gives kids the chance to meet women working in science today and see firsthand how exciting, creative and accessible science can be.”
Designed for curious minds of all ages, the 30-minute sessions combine hands-on learning and guided micro-tours, with time for questions and answers.
It’s also an opportunity for guests to meet real scientists, explore a wide range of scientific fields, and see how women are shaping the future of science.
Alongside sessions about birds and reptiles, insects, and plants, the event features special guest organizations Centre of the Universe and Dino Lab Inc., bringing with them expertise in astronomy and paleontology to the gardens for the day.
Guests are also encouraged to participate in self-guided Women in Science activity challenges throughout the gardens.
“By introducing guests to women working in science, research, and education, Victoria Butterfly Gardens aims to encourage curiosity, confidence, and possibility, especially for young visitors who may be seeing themselves represented in science for the first time,” notes the attraction’s news release.
The Women in Science event takes place throughout Sunday, March 8. The event is included with regular garden admission.
