SHORT AND SOMETIMES SWEET: “Forevergreen” is among the short documentary, live action, and animated films that will vie for an Academy Award on Sunday, March 15. The Trenton Film Society is screening these entries at Trenton’s Mill Hill Playhouse, 205 East Front Street, on Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14. Short films are defined as under 40 minutes or less — sometimes much less. Visit trentonfilmsociety.org for tickets.

The Princeton Garden Theatre has announced its year-long series for 2026. “Reel Rebels” will feature films known for their renegade characters, underdogs fighting the odds, lonely voices crying to be heard, and moviemakers struggling to share their vision.

These radical works from across the globe prove that movies will always be a home for nonconformists, dissenters, and rebels. The series will kick off on March 19 at 7 p.m. with Milos Forman’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, in which Jack Nicholson’s R.P. McMurphy defies authority at every level. On April 8 at 7:30 p m., Not So Silent Cinema will perform their new original score for The Passion of Joan of Arc.

Other titles in this introductory lineup are Ghost in the Shell on April 15, Cool Hand Luke on April 23, Brazil on April 30, Band of Outsiders on May 6, and Hollywood Shuffle on May 14. Each of these films will begin at 7 p.m.

More films will be added for “Reel Rebels” throughout the year. Tickets can be purchased at the box office or at princetongardentheatre.org/reelrebels.
