Light. Lots of light. An uncomfortable amount of light. Download an app called Photone and find a window that gives you multiple hours of over 1000 PPFD. A sunny south window is usually the trick if you have beams hitting the glass pane.

If you cant do that get some grow lights. 24w sansis and above and hang it 6 inches above the top of the cactus with a pendant light

If you can do that go to walmart and get a daylight coloured floodlight 150 or 200w equivilant and stick it in a thrift store lamp and put it 6 inches above it.

Put it in well slightly (i mean very slightly) moist well draining soil and don’t water it.

My never fail mix that has gone into tens of thousands of plants over the past 10+ years is

    45% cococoir

    45% Pearlite

    10% worm castings

Makes things near impossible to rot. Gives you a good starting point to fertilize with whatever you want and makes overwatering a thing of the past. It’s dummy proof for plants I sell or give away (in case my plant ends up in the hands of weekly waterers)
