My Florida garden is bouncing back after the hard freeze, and my banana plants are already pushing out new growth. This quick update shows how fast they recover once the temperatures warm up. If you’re growing bananas in Florida or dealing with freeze damage in your garden, here’s what early regrowth looks like.

  1. Had some banana plants in south Louisiana. We'd get 1 or 2 hard freezes a year. Trim it to the stalk and it will grow back. Also, cover your snaller plants next time. A sheet or blanket will make all the difference.

  2. SE LA north east of Lake Pontchartrain- I was encouraged to dig up our 7 pineapple plants and put them in terra cotta pots and so glad we did. I wish I had dug up the dahlias before the first hard freeze.

The pineapples are back outside and so are the milkweed and knock out roses. They are all showing new growth. I’m thankful for the nursery who encouraged me to not just cover them but get them out of the ground and in to the garage.

Congrats on your regrowth and good luck with any new additions.

  3. Monday and Tuesday temps are getting down in the 30’s again. At least in Tampa. Hopefully high 30’s and for not a long period of time. Some of my plants are also sprouting new leaves. Hate to have them go through that shock again.
