We're in North Texas and our yard gets Co pletely baked from Spring until Fall. Our big problem is that we have 4 super active dogs and so anything we put out to grow pretty much doesn't stand a chance.
Over the last 6 years, we've slowly lost all the grass in the back and the soil has become very hard and mostly clay.
We want to put clover out, but I don't know if we should just do a ChipDrop and mulch the whole thing for a year to try and repair the ground first. We've spend hundred trying to seed and feed this thing the last few years.

Try putting up a temporary fence to block off half the yard so you can establish some clover, then switching sides? Or half clover and half chips
With 4 dogs running around you shouldn’t be surprised, dogs love to run around and run and run and run and run I think dogs love to destroy my lawn that’s why I have 3 human babies instead
I don’t have a solution for your specific yard conditions but regarding the pets we divided our yard so the dogs have room to roam and do their business and the other side for our garden. Don’t think you’ll have much luck with the dogs having full access.
One thought would be raised beds get some eye candy some beneficial plants mostly dog proof (get the vibe that Australian Heeler would end up in the beds unless you give them extra protection.)
