EAST WINDSOR, NJ – An East Windsor filmmaker will take center stage at one of New Jersey’s premier film festivals next month when his work screens before audiences in Asbury Park.

Daniel Quiyu’s film “PIEGIRL” is among 205 selections chosen for the 24th annual Garden State Film Festival, running March 26-29 across nine venues in Asbury Park and Cranford.

The film follows Chelsea Frost, known as “PIEGIRL,” whose slices of pie bring nostalgia, friendship and joy to those around her. It is scheduled to screen Saturday, March 28, from 12:30 to 2:05 p.m. in the Continental Room at the Berkeley Hotel in Asbury Park.

“Daniel Quiyu represents exactly what GSFF was built to champion — bold, original storytelling from accomplished New Jersey filmmakers,” said Lauren Concar Sheehy, the festival’s executive director. “We’re extremely proud to present this work and hope audiences will come out to celebrate the talent and dedication behind these productions.”

The Garden State Film Festival, considered New Jersey’s premier independent film festival, features work from more than 19 countries across genres including documentaries, comedies, thrillers, children’s films, student films and productions shot entirely in New Jersey.

The four-day event includes a gala reception Friday, March 27, with a red carpet and screening of the feature drama “The Legend of Juan Jose Mundo,” as well as a Saturday breakfast panel with industry leaders, and a Sunday awards dinner at Ocean Place Resort in Long Branch.

A full day of screenings will also be held March 29 at The Cranford Theater in Union County.

The festival also offers accessibility features including subtitled films and the “Cinema for the Ears” series for attendees with low or no vision.
