It is a good idea. The knowledge you share with everyone is priceless. Thank you so much!
Neat. I wouldn't have thought that the contact patch between the felt and the soil would be big enough to wick water into the cells.
Thank you! I will try this.
I wonder if this concept would work… under a clay pot for some of my really unique/overly dramatic plants. Now I wanna do an experiment 🤔
Capillary action is more about surface tension and surface energy affecting cohesive and adhesive forces, but close enough.
Hi there! Was wondering why it takes so long to get your seeds ?? I live in Southern Michigan..I ordered February 23rd and my seeds are marked for delivery for March 11th..just wondering ❤
This s great!
This is a fantastic concept implemented simply and effectively. I don't have near as many seedlings to start as you do, Luke, so I use GrowEase seed starter kits from Gardener's Supply which do exactly this for which I just buy the replacement wicking mats each season. For me, it's been worth the price!
Great tip! I'll try it but on a smaller scale. I might try a small bath towel.
I've never used a wicking tray but I do bottom water. I mix a little agar into the water. It's a wetting agent and because it's made from red seaweed, it gives the seedlings a great nutrition boost.
This kinda thing also works with hydroponic nutrient solutions too.
If I ever have to travel I will consider this!
Hey there Luke!👋🏾
