HI there,
So last year we moved to a new house, and it has this random 3m x 3m raised area. It has had no use for the last year other than when I chucked some wildflower seeds down over the summer.
Looking at previous listings it looks like its never really been used.
Would this be suitable for growing vegetables? If so, what would I need to do to prep the area? Apart from the obvious removing of any plants/weeds arowing there at the moment. Would I need to remove all the dirt in there and replace it?

  1. I’d assume the soil is in rough shape though having flowers there helped, so what I’d do is this:

    1) evaluate compaction. Get something stiff and strong like a piece of rebar and shove it into the soil in a few places. How far does it go? 6″ – that’s a problem. 24″? you’re OK. If it’s compacted, broadfork it (or just use a pitchfork etc. – there are videos on how to do this)

    2) remove the weeds and work in some compost and a good balanced organic fertilizer.

    3) plant. WHAT you plant will depend on how much sun it gets etc. Also, have a plan for watering it
