Had two Chinese elms that were a good 20ft tall suddenly die within a week or two of each other, dropped all their leaves mid summer (Phoenix). They were getting ample water, flood irrigation and occasional deep soak, so I think it was fungal.
This tree still had some green bark, so I let it ride. Seems to be coming back, but I’m curious if I need to cut off the dead parts, and if I should do anything to prevent another fungal infection. My neighbors had old Chinese elms, and they both died last summer, so I think the area might have a problem. Could be wrong.

I’m in Phoenix. It’s cooked. They are not doing well in the summer with high night temps. Mature one at my mom’s isn’t leafing out. Look when you drive around town. They are all dying.
Replace it. It’s really a weed.
