I don't know what it is (some kind of bromeliad??) but it's dry and it looks like like it was under a too strong grow light. Very thin and crispy leaves and super dry soil.

I'm gonna water it and buy a pot for it tomorrow, but I have no idea about what to do after that or even what this plant is.

I want to save it, if possible.

Any help appreciated ✌️

Check for root rot, some of those leaves look suss to me.

Could it be like a bromeliad that flowers once then dies back? It puts up new shoots (pups) that you repot and then in turn they do the same thing, flower die back send up new pups.

Edit: oops I see you think it’s a bromeliad too, serves me right for not reading first 😅

So I would say pot up any little pups that you can free from the plant and forget about the old main plant

Looks like a bromeliad that’s done flowering, they die after that. Sometimes they put out offshoots as the flowers die, but I don’t see any on yours. It’s possible that the previous owner took off the offshoots and threw out the original plant since it’s nearing its end anyway
