Support for a plan to operate an Isle of Wight beauty salon in a Sandown garden has rallied ahead of a decision next month.
County Hall has received 11 letters in favour of Caymen Collins’s ‘sustainable home-based business’ in an outbuilding behind a property at 8 Queens Road.
Member of the public Karen Marlene previously objected, saying it was ‘hardly’ an essential service to the community and asked why it was proposed to be ‘bang in the middle of residential housing’.
“This is a residential area.
“There are enough problems with cars and parking.
“Presume there will be customers constantly coming and going, and they will not be arriving on foot.”
But outnumbering her, arguments for the bid include that it would allow the beauty salon, reportedly based in Sandown’s town centre at present, to continue operating in a ‘challenging economic climate’, a lack of passing trade due to the business operating by appointment-only and many of its clients living locally and travelling by foot.
Newport resident Hayley Taylor said:
“From my experience as a client, the nature of beauty treatments means there is minimal noise, no deliveries, and no congregation of people.
“It is a quiet, low-impact use that is entirely in keeping with a residential setting.”
Jo Valvona, from Ryde, said:
“As a long-standing customer, the treatments provided have a clear positive impact on clients’ wellbeing.
“The calm, private environment and one-to-one nature of the appointments support relaxation, stress reduction, and overall personal wellbeing.
“This is particularly valuable as a local service, allowing clients to access professional treatments in a familiar and comfortable setting.”
Tammy Vincent, who lives in Sandown, said:
“The business is currently located above another high street premises and is based on appointments only with no walk-ins/passing trade.
“A change of location will therefore have no impact on the high street itself.
“I, like many other clients, live locally and would therefore walk to appointments.”
An Isle of Wight Council decision on proposal 25/01857/FUL is expected on March 4.
