Beetle grubs. Good if they are in the compost, bad if they are in the lawn.

Beetles from the scarab family, which these are, are basically impossible to identify at this stage.

free snacks – if the kitchen is far away from the garden!

Grubs. Good in compost, not good in garden beds.

They turn into some kind of beetle. Around here they turn into figeater beetles, which are very pretty.

Grubs. The ones we have around here look just like that and they turn into June bugs.

They turn into June bugs they will eat your garden leaves and they fly and are the size of bumble bees.

Question to narrow it down, do they taste more like walnuts or more like fried cheese?

Some kind of beetle. Probably Japanese beetle or Junebug.

I toss them on the driveway for birds to eat.

My chickens absolute favorite treat EVER! This is chicken crack…they WILL find them and happily eat them. I can’t dig anywhere on my property without a captive audience and annoying assistants.

ETA: even my husband is trained at this point to feed to gleeful birds.

    Baby beetles.

Which ones? Too hard to say.

So I have a comment for you i read a long time ago
‘I see a lot of mistakes regarding these larvaes. There are 2 similar ones, but one type is beneficial, while the other one eats the roots of your plants.

It is quite easy to differenciate those : check their heads and their butts : small heads and big butts : they are “Cétoines” or “Ketone” in english. Thats what you have in your cup, you can release them in a pot with decomposed wood and they will eat it. They don’t eat fresh roots of your plants. They become gorgeous green beetles. These are benefitial, great pollinators too.

The ones with big heads and small butts : they are maybug or “Hanneton” in french. THEY eat roots.

Just check google for the differences between them.’

Raccoons have dug up the yards in my neighborhood, including mine, looking for grubs!

Depending where you are they could be a number of things. Not automatically bad.

Everyone bemoans the loss of the beautiful golden Christmas Beetles where I live. Online garden groups are simultaneously full of people chanting “kill kill” to pictures of grubs and seeking advice on which pesticides to use against them.

    🤷‍♀️

Grubs. They actually attack the root system of your plants.

  16. ShweatyPalmsh

Grubs. If you have grubs the moles are close behind.

If you’re in the southwestern US they could be Jerusalem Cricket larva. They can be beneficial but can also chew through crop roots without enough other food, like more voracious isopods.

Why are you all wanting to kill these guys when you have no idea what species they are?

  19. Glum-Action-7357
