Hello. I have this Hibiscus plant im trying to get to grow but the poor thing isnt growing at all. Its probably been 15cm high for the last year. This one has beautiful purple flowes when it flowers. But it only had a flower on the day i got it and its been struggling ever since.
The other pink hibiscus right next to it is growing like a damn weed. Its probably 60cm tall now flowering like nothing is wrong.
I just cant figure out what the deal is. I suspect the soil is poor in nutrients in that spot. I planted it.
If anyone can help please advise. It seems i dont know how to garen. I just want to see those beautiful purple flowers again and have a healthy plant
Thanks

3 possible fixes we’ve found, fertiliser, fungicide, or pesticide.
They like fertile soil, manure or liquid fertiliser should give it a boost.
They suffer from root and trunk rot, phosphoric acid for roots and copper based sprays for trunk.
They are affected by root and leaf attack by several bug. Curl grubs love their roots and it stunts them quite badly. Pyrethrum watered through the soil around the base should fix this.
I’ve treated ours for each/all at some stage and they’ve recovered and perked up quite quickly after.
I’m sorry to hear about your lowbiscus.
When my plants stunt after planting in the ground, it’s always either been low nutrients or dry soil. Usually dry soil for me, low nutrients normally presents in my garden as mediocre growth, not no growth. But dry soil often presents in my garden as complete dormancy. The trickle of water on the top layer is enough to keep it from dying, but that’s about it.
My soil has this tendency to absorb endless quantities of water and remain dry below 2 inches thanks to its bigoted hydrophobia. In that scenario, soil wetter and a thorough watering usually kickstarts progress.
So maybe dig into the soil near the plant and see if it’s moist deep down.
If it’s dry, it’s probably been dry for a long time.
If it’s moist several inches down, it’s something else.
