We’re now into March – and Nikki is feeling very much behind and overwhelmed by the growing season ahead. It might be the early spring – or just the weight of living in 2026, but there’s certainly a lot to do (and not a lot of spare time to do it in).

These informal, unscripted vlog-style videos are a chance for the team to share some of the fun things happening in their respective gardens – and are filmed without a teleprompter in a single take.

Hey everybody, happy Sunday. I hope that wherever you are and whatever you are doing, you’re safe, you are well, and you are with someone you care about who also cares for you.

Charlie is advancing on my position. Come on, Charlie, out of the way. Come on, keep going. Don’t you dare. Charlie is advancing on my location. Don’t, Charlie, don’t. He’s an aggressive old bugger, and as he’s gotten older, he’s become more and more aggressive.

But it’s been a really nice day in the garden today, and so I’ve let the hens out to give them a little bit of extra love and attention and outside fun. And I’m hoping that Charlie encourages the hens to go back in there. Come on, Charlie. Back you go. Come on, back in. Good boy, go on. No, go on, Charlie. In you go. Good boy, in you go. There we go.

Are you gonna go in as well? This is Grace’s daughter who has a mind of her own, and she does her own thing, and sometimes her own thing does not necessarily… come on, in you go. Come on, come on. You silly sausage, come on.

I don’t wanna go back. I don’t wanna go back. All right, I’m gonna… I’ll sort her out in a minute. She’s used to jumping up into the chicken coop, so maybe if I open this door, she will… I’ll open the door to the main coop and hopefully she will figure it out. Let’s go.

That’s a hen who’s used to a particular way of doing things. Like, I go out the front door, but I always go up into the back of the coop. That’s the way she does it. That’s the way she’s always done it. Charlie, don’t even think about it.

Anyway, aside from the quite pleasant spring‑like weather that we’ve had today, I am definitely starting to feel behind because obviously we had the snow last week. Now we’ve got some warmer weather on the way, and my attention has turned to growing things and what we’re gonna do, and—sorry, that was me kicking the thing to get it closed.

I feel so far behind, and I know if I say that other people are gonna go, “Yeah, me too.” I mean, check it out, look, this is a mess. This is a mess, and I’ve got so much to do and not a lot of spare time right now to do it, and this is the time of year.

If you live in the US, you know it’s tax season, right? And I’ve got all of my tax information to do in the next couple of weeks. I also have a trip coming up, like a last‑minute trip that was coming up on Monday that I didn’t know about until the middle of the week. So I’ve got that.

The garden looks a complete and utter mess. I haven’t started any of my seeds yet, and by the time you see this, it’s gonna be March, right? The third month of the year, and I’m like, “What am I doing? How am I gonna survive? How am I gonna find everything?” And I know that many people watching this are gonna feel exactly the same, right? Because this happens every year. The bulbs start to come out of the ground. You look at it and you go, “It’ll be fine. It will be good.” And then, and then you go, “Oh, wait.” There’s all this extra stuff that needs to be done. I haven’t done it.

This is a complete and utter mess and needs to be redone. I’ve got all this other stuff to do. I mean, the greenhouse is a complete and utter mess. Looks like the chickens went in the greenhouse today. In fact, I would like to better large some of money—there have been hens in here. Yep, there’s some chicken poo on the ground.

So they enjoyed their little freedom and their little time out of the house, but they are very destructive. Chickens are very, very destructive animals. And they had fun, but also destruction was had. So this week, my goal is to try and start thinking about what I’m gonna plant. My money is tight this year for various reasons. So I’m gonna try and be as conscious of money as I can.

I’m definitely gonna need to go and get some more soil. We’re definitely going to need to replace the greenhouse. I also want to try and plant more sensibly this year. And I’m actually gonna try making seed snails for the very first time. So for those who don’t know, seed snails are where you basically roll up bubble wrap with soil and seeds in each layer. And that provides some extra insulation. It provides some extra depth for planting and it should make things a lot, lot nicer. Whether that will mean more of our plants germinate quicker, I don’t know.

I will say that the peppers that we planted up at the end of last year are doing really well. We did lose one of them this week—it just shriveled up and died. But the other ones are doing really well, so I’m not kind of… I haven’t lost hope that those peppers will survive, but I really, yeah, first of March, I really need to put more peppers in and germinate them.

I know a lot of people start around the Super Bowl. So I’m a few weeks behind on that and they do take a long time to germinate. So I might have a go at doing that. And I’m also gonna try and start some of my pumpkins and other things a little earlier. The sooner I can kind of get them growing, as soon as the temperature is warm enough, I can put them in the ground rather than waiting for the temperature to be warm to start them.

So I might consider doing some stuff in the greenhouse with heating a little earlier this year. But obviously that depends on me getting all of my taxes, and I think I’ve come to the decision that not all is going to happen until my taxes have been done, which will probably be the middle of March.

If you are in the same position as me, let me know. Let me know how things are for you in your garden. Have you done your taxes? And do you feel that same kind of, “Oh, I’m never gonna get anything done on time”? Let me know in the down below and I will see you this time next week.

But before I go, a wonderful thank you to the amazing list of people scrolling by on either side right now. They’re the reason we still exist. They’re the people who donate from $1.50 a month, every month, to make sure that we can continue to keep bringing you content. I know we’re a small channel. We have a tiny budget—really, really tiny budget. But I try and pay the team a living wage. Sometimes I feel like I don’t succeed in that, but I do try and make sure that I pay the team fairly, that they have healthcare, that if they want it, they have a retirement account. And all of that takes a lot of money and time.

It’s a moment of pride for me that I can say that for nearly 10 years, I have provided jobs for other people here in America. At the same point, it’s really scary. You know, the future right now, 2026, a lot of the attacks on communities that I’m part of—it’s all super scary. And shadow banning is a thing, etc., etc. I’m not gonna say any more, but thank you to the amazing list of people scrolling by. You are the reason we are still here.

And if you wanna join them, there are links in the down below. Look after yourself, look after your important loved ones, and make sure you tell them that they mean a lot to you because you never know when you will never be able to tell them that again. Keep safe, keep being the awesome positive change that you wanna be in the world. Keep evolving.
