Our kitchen renovation takes an unexpected turn. What began as a straightforward plan for classic British kitchen cabinets quickly revealed the hidden costs of importing materials into France, including VAT and cross-border fees that can significantly impact a renovation budget.

We’re sharing what happens when a dream kitchen meets international logistics.

Beyond the kitchen, hunting season in Côtes-d’Armor brings activity around our rural property, and we begin planting seedlings in the greenhouse as we prepare our organic vegetable garden for spring.

If you’re curious about château renovation costs, importing cabinets to France, French VAT on renovations, countryside life in Brittany, and starting a spring garden, this episode brings it all together.

  1. Hey guys! First please let me say that if I was ever lucky enough to have a relationship like yours, well, I would be damn lucky. I am 4 months behind, on purpose, because I don't want to binge and have to wait…oh, am I impatient? Of course! Anyone who accuses you of treating your husband poorly needs to shut it. Yes, you have a very dry sense of humor, it's what got me into your channel out of many options out there and I often think that as soft spoken as THE LINC is, he is probably the actual troublemaker in that group….stealthy, lol, silent but deadly, whatever. You guys do you and if people don't like the fact that you spend tons of time and money taking care of basically left donkeys, feral cats, a 3 legged crazy for fun dog and Guava that knows his people will do whatever for him, then maybe they need to watch the US Weather channel. Just a thought…people, hopefully your mama told you if you don't have anything nice to say, go home.

  2. I agree with you re. the hunters. This is private land after all. I also find it difficult to understand how they can just come onto your property to hunt.

  3. Not writing about hunting, but that I like your channel. So here goes: I love your donkeys, dogs and cats and cat fostering. It is so admirable that you both persevere in the obstacles that you are challenged with. Just carry on, discard the bs, make some French onion soup, call your Mom and daughters and retreat to a sound and comforting place to rest and recoup. Let the rest go. Light some candles and soak in the tub and eat some chocolate, it will heal you,❤️

  4. Nothing to do with Brexit.

The lower VAT rate is only, has only ever been, for French supplied work with a FR VAT code.

  5. The hunting thing is always annoying. And it’s frustrating when they refuse to obey the rules to keep out when you have been clear and put up signs etc…

  6. I really enjoy your videos. I can't wait to follow the kitchen being built and hopefully a lot of cooking segments :D!!

  7. Our son, in Brittany, has to chase hunters off of his farm. I’m not apposed to hunting but, hunters should not be on private property without permission.

  8. The 10% VAT for home renovations is not a blanket regulation, some work is covered but some may not be, so make sure you check every detail in order to avoid potentially nasty surprises down the line. Good luck with the renovation, it will all be worth it in the end.

  9. How is the music room and the 2nd daughters bedroom and the grand salon Reno s going any updates on them, love your work

  10. En France il est interdit de chasser sur une propriété privée. Prenez rendez-vous avec le maire de votre ville et demandez-lui les coordonnées de la société de chasse pour connaître les démarches à suivre pour interdire la chasse sur votre propriété.

  11. Don"t be a Karen 🙂 Speak with the hunting association of your place and explain your problem. Don't make the war against these people. This is their country and their culture, not yours 🙂

  12. Hi Lincoln and Amanda, Have you considered: (1)installing 1 or 2 sump pumps in the basement, to prevent future flooding in the basement (2) putting caps over your 2 fireplace chimneys to prevent water from coming into the house and damaging the house or even damaging your beautiful new kitchen cabinets that you will be installing soon? Definitely before you install uour new kitchen(3) Maybe you can put a load speaker at the edge of your property that automatically informs the hunters to please keep off your property. All the very best with all the future inside and outside renovation work on your chateau.

  13. I see signs here in France that say "chasse preivé." Maybe you could put them up around your property .
