Three plants absolutely flew off the shelves at Creekside Nursery this weekend — and today I’m sharing exactly what they were and why gardeners are grabbing them right now.

From blooming hellebores that bring late winter color, to tough aspidistras that thrive in deep shade, to the gorgeous Paisley Pup doghobble that lights up woodland beds — these top-selling plants are perfect for adding evergreen structure, texture, and reliable beauty to your garden.

If you garden in Zone 8 (or similar climates), these shade-loving shrubs and perennials are excellent choices for early spring planting.

There is grace in gardening — and when you choose the right plants for your space, you set yourself up to grow, bloom & thrive all season long.

  1. Hi Jenny ! If you could melt our lotsa' feet of snow, we could plant those wonderful Hellebores 🥴 A wee jealous of the green surrounding you 💌 (from Zone 5a ).

  2. I have 3 of these.. Lots of Hellebores, 3 or 4 varieties of Illicium, and 2 Paisley Pup plus one other Leucothe. Looking at Aspidistra. I didn't realize they got o tall!

  3. Loved the hellebores…3 are here at my house waiting to be planted. All you had were so beautiful and I had a hard time picking out the ones I wanted. I had such a great time dreaming of what I couldn’t live without. Your options are endless and beautiful and make us happy. Thanks for the video and try to stay warm 👏👍🐾🌷🌸🪻❤️

  4. After hearing you talk about the different types of Aspidistra I wanted to up my gave. Mine do so well in my San Diego garden. Imagina how surprised when I look up Aspidistra and Cast-iron Plant on your online store. You show none of either! Yes, you were talking how well they sold the 1st day of the nursery year. But not even a listing for either name. What is with that. Some reason please.

  5. If there is anything you want to see hownit does in my area CT 6b let me know ans i prob can buy it ans put somewhere (: I have my personal gardens and I do a lot in my community ( Master Gardener and part of my local Garden Club ) gives me an excuse to buy more plants I can tell my husband Jenny wanted me to lol

  6. Not surprised at all that hellebores topped the list. I got two from you all last year, Jenny and was devastated when the dog broke the entire plant off at the base. I put bricks around it and lo and behold, this spring it is already back sporting a bloom. So glad I didn’t give up on it and thankful that Creekside sent a plant with a good root system.

  7. I am looking forward to giving Paisley Pup a try – older cultivars of variegated Leucothoe just did not have the resilience here in New England (ie cooler climes)

  8. So many pretty plants:) Hellebores always seem to be a top seller for you guys:) I’m here in California and zone 9 where we can get pretty warm and we have lots of deer so planting is very hard. Thank you for sharing these deer resistant plants we may have to try some in our front yard:) Tfs and God bless:)

  9. Hi Jenny! Kathy Summerville here from Charlotte. Craig and I had a blast when we came to visit for your 2026 opening day. We really enjoyed meeting you Jerry and the rest of the team (some we had already met last August during our very first visit) and appreciated everyone’s great help and suggestions. Craig and I bought Hellebores (‘Frostkiss Penny’s Pink’ & ‘Ice ‘n Roses Picotee’), Aspidistras (‘Spektacular’ & ‘Hercules’), Heucheras (‘Red Lightning’ & ‘Berry Smoothie’) and Carex ‘Feather Falls’ 😀 We are beyond excited to get these planted in our landscape. Craig and I are also giddy about receiving our preorders when it’s the proper time for Creekside to ship them. We can guarantee we’ll be back for future visits to Creekside Nursery 😊

  10. Off topic, but what fertilizer do you recommend for gardenias? I have transplanted some very old, very tall gardenia plants from my parents old home place. I am babying them, and need for them to continue to be strong and healthy. I’m in Zone 9A. Thanks!

  11. The plants are BEAUTIFUL, but I noticed the economy is hitting the nurseries too with the prices. I’m hoping to indulge in at least a few plants this year. 💕
