They look like wild grapes to me.

I think if you’re that worried you better go just to be safe.

    Edit: typo

This looks a lot like Privet- if so, they are TOXIC, but NOT DEADLY. You should definitely seek professional advice.

  4. Goosetowns

    Possibly Privet (ligustrum spp.) drupes/fruit.
    Edit: Definitely not grapes.

If you do go to the ER, bring some berries with you and a branch or leaves so it can be fully ID’d.

  6. Call poison control and monitor him
He’s probably fine but he will probably have a stomach ache. Also I’m not a doctor lol

Where are you located? Get a sample in a zip lock and take him to be checked out just in case! You can also call poison control for better guidance.

Best case these are riverbank grapes, worst case this could be Privet and serious so I’d check these out just for peace of mind.

These look like Privet to me as well. I worked around them a lot for plant removal projects. They are poisonous to eat and can cause nausea and vomiting. As a medical professional, I would recommend going to the hospital if your child is showing any sustained vomiting and is nauseous.

I would still go to a local ER

    AI Overview

    (Re: Google Lens)

The item shown is Privet (Ligustrum species), a highly invasive shrub often found in Texas.
Toxicity: The berries are poisonous to humans, causing symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain if ingested.
Invasiveness: This plant is considered an aggressive invasive species that displaces native plants and forms dense thickets.
Identification: It features clusters of dark blue to black berries that persist through winter, often appearing on bare branches after leaves have fallen.
Management: Controlling these shrubs often requires chemical treatments, cutting, or mechanical removal to prevent further spread.
Disclaimer: Privet berries are toxic. Do not ingest them. If you have concerns about toxic plants in your area, contact local agricultural extension services or a poison control center.

Could also be Rhamnus Cathartica aka Buckthorn, which is also toxic to humans & causes stomach cramps and laxative effects. Better to be safe than sorry!

  11. Emptynest09

No you should post about him instead of taking him to the hospital.

  12. FetchingOrso

They look like wine grapes to me but better safe than sorry.

    Are you on Facebook?

This is a group of various types of professionals who can identify various toxic plants and fungi.

    https://www.facebook.com/groups/144798092849300/

They only allow posts from people in positions like yours, uncertain if this is an emergency or not and needing quick ID, and commenters are approved by the group mods after proving their credentials.

Call poison control. Tell them your son ate six berries and you’re pretty sure they’re privet. Tell them your location and where the plant is growing (looks like a slightly wooded area adjacent to a backyard, where privet is a common sight in my layperson’s experience).

Poison control operators are very knowledgeable and usually very chill and friendly. They will not downplay your fears OR exaggerate the risk, they’ll give you level-headed and informed guidance. Never be afraid to call if you’re the least bit worried!

your post history is just your cats tail falling off and now this, whats going on??? irresponsible!

  16. Cold-Ad8865

Grapes or privet. Grapes. Definitely bring him to E.R. better safe than sorry.

  17. PresentationSimple54

You’re fine, monitor him and see if he gets sicker. If he does then take him.

Call poison control, and save some berries to bring to hospital if needed. Poison control is free to call. I have used it. Find your local number by googling it. Hope your kiddo is ok!!

If you’re concerned get off of Reddit and take him to the hospital just in case, ffs.

  20. ISameul99

Absolutely the faster the better don’t wait. Do it now I’m a registered nurse do it

  21. Ace-of-Wolves

It appears to be waxleaf privet, which toxic to humans (and cats/dogs etc). Although it says it’s only dangerous in large amounts, I don’t know what a large dose would be for a child. I would take him to the hospital regardless. Better safe than sorry.

Hope your 6 year old will be okay! Update when you can! Praying for the little tyke! 🙂

  23. MeNoPickle

Oh boy. He will be fine, but yes, a doctor is needed for safety concerns, don’t listen to anything Reddit says except seek a dr asap. Bring some berries/a branch with you.

  24. Skellyhell2

Possibly Ligustrum Vulgare, the common/European prive. location info would be useful in the main post! I read a comment saying youre in texas but European Privet still grows there.
They are toxic, not likely to be deadly in the amount eaten, but quite likely to cause vomiting, nausea and diarrhea.

Contact poison control, give them lots of info and prepare for your kid to have an uncomfortable lesson in not eating random berries
