Twinkling with fairy lights, it was one of the most magical places I’ve ever had coffee

Tucked away in a quintessentially British village is a café like no other.

Surrounded by fields, a duck pond and a children’s playground, the graceful little beauty spot is full of charm, magic and whimsical extras you wouldn’t usually find in your typical coffee shop.

Located in the peaceful neighbourhood of Pirbright just outside Guildford The Yurt Café can be found in the garden of a gorgeous gastro pub called The Cricketers on the Green.

As the name suggests, the café is situated inside a traditional circular structure with a wooden lattice frame and adorable little door.

Twinkling with fairy lights, it was one of the most magical places I’ve ever had coffee, and it felt like I was in a fairytale land. It just needed a few pixies bouncing around.

Available for dining and takeaway, I popped in for coffee and a mid-morning snack and was blown away by its enchanting welcome.

The hidden tent was adorned with plants both inside and out, and diddy lights flickers all around me.

With only half a dozen or so tables inside, it is quite snug, however, there is plenty of additional seating outside in the pub grounds to use on warm sunny days.

I secured a table inside the warm and cosy eatery and ordered myself a coconut latte (£3.80) and a sausage roll (£4.95).

Served in a beautiful cup and saucer, my coffee was really good, and the sausage roll, wow.

I asked for it to be served warm, and the pastry was wonderfully buttery, crisp and thin and the meat was ridiculously thick and juicy.

It had the perfect sausage to pastry ratio and was fabulously flaky.

There were lots of other dishes on the menu, all seasonal, fresh and featuring local produce. From brunches and lunches to homemade sweet treats.

Thick wedges of banana and pumpkin cake, blueberry and lemon curd muffins, chocolate brownies, croissants and pan au chocolats were some of the delicious baked sitting proudly on the counter.

But it was the ‘croissant royals’ that really caught my eye for my next visit.

Available in ham and cheese or sausage, egg, cheese and mustard mayonnaise, the large French pastries are jam-packed with a hot filling and cost £6.95 each.
