I would like to separate and repot my Dark Star. This is one of my favorites and I’m afraid I’ll kill it. It has given me 5 new leaves since I bought it at the end of December and seems to be very happy. Is it generally okay to separate these plants or do they not do well having their roots interrupted? It is currently in its original 12” nursery pot. After separating would it be okay to plant each one in a 10” nursery pot of roughly the same depth? Should I size up or keep them each in a 12”? Any other tips are appreciated.

Yes – I periodically separate off new offshots of my imperial red (similar hybride to dark star), in order to keep it in a 10″ pot. You can also size up if youd like, and that will probably allow it to grow larger if provided sufficient light, water, and nutrition.
You can separate them. Good light, a good liquid fertilizer, and if you can get it, rooting activator (I use Pro Roots by Terra Aquatica), would really help make it successful.
