If you’re already planning out your garden for the spring, the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District is selling a variety of plants at up to 50% off retail prices.

Until April 2, the agency is selling native plants, wildflowers, hardy flowers and grasses – all ideal for building your own rain garden.

Rain gardens are watered by collected or pooled stormwater runoff from roofs, driveways, yards and other surfaces, according to MMSD. They can help reduce risk of flooding, provide a habitat for pollinators and birds, and protect Lake Michigan and other streams from water pollution by reducing stormwater runoff.

Here’s how to order your native plants from MMSD.

How to order native plants in Milwaukee

You can order rain garden plants online through the sewerage district’s website.

Plants are available for preorder through April 2 and will be available for pickup from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 6 at MMSD headquarters, 260 W. Seeboth St.

Plants are all sold in bundles of four, with most priced at $3 per plant and $12 per bundle. The agency has implemented a minimum order of $45 in order to keep prices low. That means you have to order at least four plant bundles or one $45 garden kit, which comes with 16 preselected plants.

The agency recommends ordering early because the sale will close before April 2 if plants sell out. For more information, you can used MMSD’s contact form, email orders@mmsdraingardenplantsale.com or call 1-800-842-0527.
