Dry stone pond build, natural garden pond construction, rock pond on a slope, Australian native garden landscaping, hand built stone pond, landscape design process.

This project documents the construction of a small stone pond on a steep bushland slope in Eltham, Victoria.

The shape is determined in the ground, adjusting to roots, terrain, and compacted soil as excavation progresses. Stone is selected and placed by hand using dry stone principles, relying on mass and placement rather than mortar.

The pond is intended as a quiet anchor within the garden rather than a decorative feature. Over time, planting will integrate the structure into the hillside and soften the edges of the stonework.

This video focuses on process, material decisions, and how small interventions can resolve space within a landscape.

  1. If you’re building a pond in your own garden, consider how it will handle overflow, depending on location and rainfall. You may need to install an outlet connected to the stormwater system.

  2. That "leg day" would 100% have become "buy an electric wheelbarrow day" for me πŸ˜‚. My uncle's back is shot after a lifetime as a gardener, so I would actually advise it. He now uses his daily.

  7. I don't know how many hours it takes you to film, edit the videos you record. Count the hours you put on your research, planning and editing your drafts of your narration. Then you also have the hours you place for the work you actually do and having a life outside of work so you can be with folks special to you. Wanted to say thank you as the quality of your videos just hit so well. Congrats on 96.3k subscribers! It won't be long until you surpass 100k.

  8. Love this! Could you please share the place you bought the stone from from? πŸ™
