BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (KCTV) – Powell Gardens, Kansas City’s botanical garden, has expanded its reach with its latest acquisition.
Thursday, Powell Gardens announced that Colonial Gardens has been acquired, marking a “transformative expansion of Powell Gardens’ mission in education, environmental stewardship, and community engagement,” the garden said.
Colonial Gardens features apple picking, seasonal festivals, plant shopping and more. It now will become a second site of Powell Gardens and will operate as Powell Gardens Colonial Farms.
The new name preserves the local legacy of Colonial Gardens.
“This is about honoring what people already love while building something even greater for the future,” said Cody Jolliff, CEO of Powell Gardens. “Colonial Gardens has deep roots in this community. By bringing it into the Powell Gardens family as Powell Gardens Colonial Farms, we’re preserving a local legacy and expanding access to education, nature, and meaningful outdoor experiences for generations to come.”
A grand opening celebration for Powell Gardens Colonial Farms will be held March 20-21, 2026. The event will be the official launch of a new era for the facility.
