Hey team, Iv got a veggie patch that’s roughly 3m x 1m. Last year I had some chilis planted and a basil plant that basically grew into a tree.
This year I was wanting to plant something more permanent rather than seasonal that can give fresh herbs/spices from. Ideally a chili plant type that can live multiple seasons it was sad cutting down last years then having to recompost the patch.
In WA if that makes any difference

Whatever you plant. Please use mulch, any kind. But at least 2″ thick. Much better for the soil xo
I’ve got a chilli that’s in its 4th year. The bed is near my shed, that gets full sun over winter, so maybe it never gets cold enough for it to die (but its seen many frosts). It loses all its leaves but bounces back every spring. It’s about 4ft tall now.
Other herbs like Sage, Rosemary, Thyme, Oregano Perennial Basils, will last forever.
Most chilli’s and Capsicums will last about 3 years. They go dormant and look sad in winter but come back well in the summer. Other than that herbs like thyme and Oregano are perennial. Parsley is annual but its super easy to start from seeds so its worth planting annually.
Move it away from the metal fence. Whatever you plant will burn in the summer.
