With spring on the way, gardens are set to awaken, and if homeowners don’t keep on top of their lawns and shrubbery, it can soon start to take over. Reliable tools are essential for maintaining a polished garden, and shoppers have been praising a compact Ryobi pruning saw that’s helped them save money on hiring tree surgeons.

Hailed as ‘better than even hoped for’, the device is lightweight, safe, and straightforward to operate. The 18V One+ Cordless 15cm Pruning Saw is engineered for trimming trees and shrubs, pruning, limbing, and cutting up garden waste – and it’s currently on sale.

Originally priced at £119.99, it’s now available for less on Ryobi Tools’ website using our exclusive online code ‘PRUNE20’. This takes the price down to £99.99, saving customers £20.

Part of the Ryobi 18V ONE+ range, which encompasses over 200 cordless tools for home, garden, automotive, and crafting tasks, this mini saw slots effortlessly into any toolkit. According to the manufacturer, its cordless construction means no setup or specialist knowledge is necessary, users can simply pop in the battery and begin pruning immediately.

The Ryobi saw is perfect for cutting through ‘small branches and logs up to 13cm in diameter’, the website states. Its lightweight 2.5kg frame and grip enable single-handed operation, if required, whilst the compact build allows users to access confined spaces and prune at any angle or height.

The device features a two-stage trigger and bar cover to prevent accidental activation. The tool also includes ‘tool-less chain tensioning’ for rapid adjustments and a 4.4m/s chain speed driven by an 18V motor, making it efficient and simple to manage.

Powered by an included 18V ONE+ 2.0Ah battery, it can deliver up to 65 cuts through 60mm hardwood on a single charge, making it perfectly suited for maintaining plant health, limiting the spread of disease, or preparing firewood.

Currys also stocks some excellent alternatives – notably the Black + Decker 18V Cordless Jigsaw, currently reduced from £68.99 to £59.99. Tipping the scales at just 2.6kg, this lightweight option is compatible with wood, plastic and metal, and also features an 18V battery.

Another worthy contender is the Guild 160mm Circular Saw, available from Argos for £50. This model is described as particularly effective for ‘producing long, straight cuts up to 52mm deep’, and is well suited to cutting and trimming doors, worktops, boards and sheet material, making it a highly versatile purchase.

Returning to the Ryobi Tools saw, however, which has garnered considerable praise. On Trustpilot, the brand holds an impressive ‘Excellent’ rating, averaging 4.6 out of five stars from upwards of 66,000 reviews.

One satisfied customer remarked: “Better than even hoped for! I have pollarded a large Magnolia tree in my garden, done a slightly smaller one in my mum’s garden, and started on my 2nd Magnolia. The pruning saw made light work of the job, and all on less than one charge, so far! Last year I paid £85 just for one tree to be pruned! This tool has already saved me money! I will be looking at adding other tools from the Ryobi cordless range come next pay day!”

Another remarked: “Great addition to the range from Ryobi, just what I need as I get older.” A third noted: “One good tool for cutting and pruning.”

One customer did raise concerns about the battery life, commenting: “Too early to tell, properly. However, it cuts well and seemed to cope with the first few pieces I cut. The battery seems to run out quicker than anticipated as well.”

On the whole, the majority of buyers were satisfied, with one customer writing: “Great piece of kit. I used it to cut down three shrubs and it worked great. Definitely recommend.”
