San Francisco always comes alive in the spring, with numerous blooming flower gardens and exciting outdoor events throughout the city. One of our favorite spring events in SF is IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild, an outdoor concert with classical music in the San Francisco Botanical Garden. The concert series is in its 11th season, touring regularly, stopping at scenic outdoor locations throughout the West Coast.
The concert will feature a talented pianist performing in one of the garden’s beautiful meadows, surrounded by trees. Attendees are given wireless headphones so they can listen to the concert while wandering through SF’s expansive Botanical Garden, though you can also relax, watch the pianist play, and enjoy the outdoors. IN A LANDSCAPE was started in 2016 by classical pianist Hunter Noack, reimagine a classic concert hall by performing in nature. Noack brings a 1912 grand piano to parks and gardens throughout the western USA, and the series has garnered 75,000 viewers.

The series has featured 100 guest musicians during over 300 concerts. The 2026 show at the SF Botanical Garden is on May 20, starting at 5 pm. Tickets are $55 and are on sale now. We recommend buying tickets soon, as they are expected to sell fast. The San Francisco Botanical Garden spans 55 acres with multiple unique sections featuring plants from around the world. Right now, the gardens are blooming with hundreds of beautiful magnolias. Over 200 trees are currently in full bloom, signaling the beginning of spring.
If you can’t make it to the performance in at the San Francisco Botanical Garden, you can see IN A LANDSCAPE at Filoli Estate and Gardens just 30 minutes from San Francisco on May 18.
