If you’ve been thinking about going organic in your garden this year, here’s your chance to learn the basics from an expert.

The Bowie County Master Gardeners and the Texas A&M University Texarkana School of Professional Education and Community Engagement will host “Organic Gardening Fundamentals” on Monday, March 9, 2026.

The free class begins at 6:00 PM in the University Building, Room 326. The event is open to the public, and no reservation is required. Just show up.

Learn from an Extension Specialist

The program will be presented by Dr. Joe Masabni, Professor and Extension Vegetable Specialist with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, based at the AgriLife Research and Extension Center in Dallas.

Dr. Masabni will explain how organic gardening works as an ecological production system that promotes biodiversity, healthy soil, and natural growing cycles.

What You’ll Learn

Participants will learn how to:

Strengthen the soil food webPlant and rotate a diversity of cropsUse integrated pest management techniquesReduce reliance on synthetic inputsImprove garden health and productivity naturally

Organic gardening focuses on restoring and maintaining ecological harmony while producing healthy food for your family or to share with others.

A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation.

The Annual Texarkana Wagon for Veterans was held at the Four States Fairgrounds, featuring a chuckwagon-style meal with funds raised for disabled veterans in our community.
