I got this plant in December 2025 and I always knew the soil was VERY compact. Since I got it, every week, one of the small, new leaves becomes wilted, starts to turn yellow, and either falls off or dries out. At first, I watered it once a week, but then I increased the interval and started watering it every two weeks or, when it’s very hot, every week and a half. I water it until water starts draining from the bottom of the pot. I noticed that the yellowing happened less often, but it still happened. I also noticed some yellow spots on the leaves. I keep it near a window, where it receives direct afternoon sunlight, and when it’s very sunny I close the curtain to filter the light.

Today, I decided to lift the plant out of the pot and it’s basically all roots. What should I do? Should I repot it? If so, should I loosen the roots or leave them as they are?

  1. Yup, time for a repot. Well draining soil. Grab a pot two inches larger than the one it’s currently in. Totally up to you if you want to knock some dirt off the roots and loosen them slightly, then into the new pot with new soil. Shake it and let the soil settle.
