SOUTHBURY – It’s been a long hard winter and the Southbury Garden Club’s March speaker has plenty of ideas how to get your dormant garden growing this spring. Noted instructor, garden columnist and blogger Karla Dalley’s presentation, Spring Awakening, will take place on March 6, 1 p.m. at the Southbury Public Library in the Kingsley Room. The program is free and open to the public.
An organic gardener for over 30 years, Dalley has taught gardening at capital Community College where she offered courses on various gardening topics. She currently lectures to homeowner’s associations, garden clubs, women’s groups and has done presentations at the Garden Show at Mohegan Sun and Gardeners Supply in Burlington, Vermont.
Dalley is also a garden columnist for We-Ha Magazine and book reviewer for the Connecticut Horticultural Society. She is the author of an organic gardening blog, “Gardendaze.” Her backyard is certified as a Backyard Habitat by the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection and the National Wildlife Federation.
Spring Awakening is the first in a series of free educational programs being offered this season by the Southbury Garden Club. In keeping with its mission, the club sponsors several free events to members of all ages in the community to further the education and conservation of natural resources, and to promote interest in horticulture and floral design.
The Garden Club also maintains several established community gardens to enhance the beautification of Southbury. The Southbury Garden Club is a member of the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc., National Garden Clubs Inc. and New England Garden Clubs, Inc.
