Garden Hills Phase 3 Project
(Paula Drive Full Closure at Mattis Avenue)
CHAMPAIGN – Starting Friday, February 27, 2026, Paula Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic at the intersection of Paula Drive and Mattis Avenue. There will also be a lane closure along Mattis Avenue to facilitate construction on the east lane of the northbound side of Mattis. There will be intermittent closures on the west lane of the southbound side during daily activities.
Between February 25-26, Stark Excavating will be erecting the long-term northbound lane closure barriers. Access to driveways for residents and Fire Station 5 will be maintained through this closure. Pedestrian access to all homes will be maintained throughout construction.
This new closure is until further notice as there are multiple projects (Champaign and Illinois American Water) that will be occurring in the intersection. This work is weather dependent and may be delayed in the event of inclement weather. More lane and/or road closures will be announced throughout the phases of the project.
