These diverse trees and shrubs are far more exciting than the boring paint colour

March 1 marks the beginning of meteorological spring. While Celtic traditions celebrate February 1, St Brigid’s Day, as the first day of spring, this month has felt very wintry and extremely soggy. Hopefully, as we enter March, temperatures will begin to rise, and we can all get back to gardening again. While the ground is saturated, you are best staying away from it – trampling on wet ground will only compact it further, and it’s also quite easy to slip in this weather.

March is a busy month for gardeners as there is much to be sown, planted and nurtured. It’s also a time when nature begins to blossom. I’ve spotted blackthorn already in bloom in the countryside.
