Disney has covered flower beds and wrapped cold-sensitive topiaries at EPCOT as Central Florida faces freezing temperatures and wind chills in the 20s.
The large floral beds between World Showcase and World Celebration are completely covered in protective blankets. Topiaries, including Goofy, are fully wrapped in frost protection as temperatures dropped into the 30s across the region.
The National Weather Service issued a Freeze Warning through 9 am this morning for much of Central Florida, with morning lows in the 30s and wind chills in the 20s. Temperatures are running about 15 degrees below normal for late February.
A Frost Advisory remains in effect for tonight into Wednesday morning as temperatures are expected to drop into the 30s again, with some inland areas potentially reaching freezing.
The cold weather arrives as EPCOT prepares for the 2026 International Flower and Garden Festival, which opens March 4. The first topiaries for the festival recently went into place around the park, including Bambi, Phineas and Ferb, Captain Hook and Peter Pan, and pandas at the China Pavilion.
Disney routinely protects sensitive plants and topiaries when temperatures approach or drop below freezing. The frost blankets and covers help insulate vegetation from cold damage during overnight temperature drops.
High temperatures today are forecast to reach the low to mid 60s under sunny skies. Warmer weather returns by Wednesday, with highs climbing into the 70s as winds shift from the south-southwest.
The 2026 EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival runs March 4 through June 1, 2026, featuring more than 60 character topiaries and 31 gardens and floral displays.
