Heyo, I’m relatively new to houseplants and bought a Chamaedorea a few months ago. Over the last few weeks, it has started to look unhealthy. Almost every leaf tip is turning black or grey, and I’m also noticing dark spots in the middle of some stems and a few a fully black.

I see three possible causes and would really appreciate your input:

1. The plant is in a very dark room. The light is usually on, but there is almost no natural light.

2. I had a fungus gnat problem for a while, but I think/(hope) it’s under control now.

3. Possible root rot from overwatering. The soil often stays quite wet, and the plant is in the bathroom, so humidity is high.

Does any of this sound like the main issue, or could it be something else entirely?

Would new soil fix it or would it be too much stress?
