Spring is nearly upon us and there’s signs of it everywhere, from crocuses and daffodils sprouting up to brighter mornings. It’s a time of year where nature comes alive again after hibernating over the winter.

More often than not it feels like we’re coming alive again too. After what felt like weeks of endless rain and freezing weather over winter, it finally feels like brighter days are upon us with perfect conditions for walks outside.

New research shows that when it comes to this time of the year interest surges in some of the UK’s best known parks and gardens as people organise days out for spring. And one place which is popular in the spring is our very own Dunham Massey.

Researchers from TGA Mobility analysed Google search interest across some of the UK’s best known green spaces and looked at where it increases throughout the year. Topping the list as the most searched-for garden is Hever Castle Gardens in Kent, with an average of 135,000 monthly searches, reflecting a ‘consistently high interest during the spring and the summer months’.

This was followed by RHS garden Wisley in Surrey with around 110,000 average monthly Google searches and a ‘consistent spring demand’. Yorkshire’s Castle Howard came in third place with 90,500 average monthly searches, and a particular demand in early spring, with high searches between March and April.

Meanwhile Dunham Massey came seventh in the list. It amasses around 60,500 monthly Google searches on average. Although the garden does see a peak during the winter, it is still driven by searches for people planning spring outings.

Dunham Massey is home to the UK’s biggest winter garden and contrary to the name it does bloom with bulbs during the spring. New flowers awake every few weeks from early snowdrops to Crocus, Irish and Scilla in the spring.

In March Dunham Massey is taken over by a carpet of daffodils. In fact the garden is home to over a hundred different varieties, with some early blooms appearing in late February while by March visitors are treated to a full display.
