Quick update from a side project I’ve been building for plant collectors.

A lot of people told me they love trading plants, but hate the usual friction:

  • digging through a spreadsheet or forum comments looking for what others have to trade (some of which are outdated)
  • figuring out what the owner actually wants to trade for

So I added a simple trading layer to collecto.rs:

  • You can mark plants in your collection as available to trade
  • You can list what you’re interested in trading for
  • Anyone viewing your profile can make an offer
  • No emails, phone numbers, or personal contact info exposed to strangers unless you want to pursue a trade off-platform

It’s intentionally pretty lightweight and not meant to replace local swaps or community trading threads. It's more like a way to make intent clearer and reduce back-and-forth.

This is very much early and I’m more interested in what feels useful vs annoying:

  • Is listing “what you’re looking for” helpful?
  • Would you want trade history / reputation later?
  • Anything that would make this safer or less spammy?

Happy to answer questions, and totally fine if this isn’t for you. I'm mostly here to learn from people who already trade a lot.

Hi the only feedback I would give would be geographically location and where they will ship to or is this just for the USA? Where they will ship to could always be arranged through the seller other than that great work

Might be worth it if you can say whether you want local trades only. Country specific makes sense, but you still will have to ship stuff. Being able to set it up for just in-person trades would be nice. Maybe set your zip code and a drive radius for trading?

After setting up my account and adding a few plants I can say it works incredible this makes collection documentation so much more appealing!
