What your success rate with this method? Do you leave the plants outside the first year or bring them inside?

What about fruit trees? have saved seeds from nectarines and peaches .
I'll just continue to buy my seeds or bare root plants from my favorite store, MIGARDENER

Would this work with pine berries?
Do we cold stratify apples for same length of time? And does the seed coat need to be nicked? Going to try with Washington honey crisps!
To anyone watching this video: honestly don't waste your time. Blackberry and raspberry spread so willingly that you can ask any gardener that grows them if you can have some plants. Every year I give away about 4 full beds worth of plants when I prepare my raspberry beds for the coming season.
That way you'll know the variety, how hardy it is and most importantly for raspberry if it's a fall or summer bearing variety. I don't have summer bearing anymore because of the extra work of thinning last years canes.
I know this time of year gardening video material is a little light on the ground because the season hasn't quite kicked off yet but dear MIgardener I know you can do so much better.
And in some areas…incredibly invasive. I've had blackberry runners go under my house and pop up on the other side.
California doesn’t usually sell its own fruit in California unfortunately! I rarely see berries from Ca here!
Pretty cool. I love wild blackberries and Hubby killed most of them. Now I’ll be able to get some new ones.
How can we know if the fruit we get at the grocery come from hybrid seeds? Seeds from hybrids don't produce predictable results.

A lot of fruit trees (apples ) are grafted plants which contributes to the phenotype of thd fruit–this means if your fruit seed comes from a grafted plant, it won't make the same fruit type in your yard. Luc, have you had success growing fruit trees from seed? I want to grow some trees in a heated greenhouse so that i might get some citrus and stone fruit in my zone 4 region, but I feel like i need to get a grafted tree from somewhere. I don't think the same problem would exist for rasberries and blackberries as they grow vigorously and can imagine auccess from seed.
What about frozen wild blueberries? I think they are from MI. Will they still propagate or are the fresh blueberries better?
Thanks! I ordered seeds online, soaked them overnight in lactic acid solution, potted them, set them outside where they are cold stratifying. I've never done this before so it's kind of an experiment but I'm hopeful. I never thought of using grocery store fruit.
This past fall I have collected seeds from everything including Rose Hips. Going to be Winter Sowing this week. Might as well try it, doesn't cost much, will be using water and milk jugs and amended top soil.
I have some raspberry vines that showed up behind my fence.
I call them my "free range raspberries"

I bought a couple blackberry plants from you last summer, planted them right away and they went bonkers. I even found one large berry by surprise
So much easier finding a dried out berry on a plant. Or save a ripe berry. And let it dry out. The seeds will be the only thing left on the dried up berries. No sifting required.
I cut back my raspberries and tried propagating them for the first time. We will see how it goes.
Interesting, but at my age, too time consuming. A good science experiment. I already have a producing blackberry bed and they put out sprouts. So I just expand my bed by transplanting the sprouts. Thanks for video. 😊

Would frozen blueberries that I picked from a local farm and then froze still have viable seeds?

Now why would someone want to do this? The resulting plants will have totally unknown characteristics. In flowers that might be fun, but for a food crop plant, that has longevity and takes up varying amount of space, most people will want to know what they investing that time and space for.
You could easily spend a number of years on this idea before knowing if the resulting plant is making raspberries of a size, flavor or disease resistance that you even want. All raspberries and blackberries are NOT alike. Some are sweet, big, and lovely. But they could also be small, bland, bitter, malformed, and full of disease issues. Why choose that?
If you use frozen berries, can you skip the cold stratifying?
