Geauga Park District will be hosting “Shade Gardening: Making the Most of Soft Landing Gardens” from 10 to 11:30 a.m. March 14 at The West Woods Nature Center, 9465 Kinsman Road in Russell Township.
Led by Dave Tomashefski of Meadow City Nursery, this program will explore how the shaded areas under trees — often overlooked in traditional landscaping — play a vital role in supporting wildlife, according to a news release. These “soft landing” gardens provide critical habitat where countless caterpillars transform into moths and butterflies, essential members of our local ecosystem. In turn, these insects help sustain birds and other wildlife higher up the food chain.
Participants will learn practical, easy-to-apply strategies for designing gardens that not only beautify shady spaces but also nurture the full life cycle of beneficial insects, the release stated.
This collaborative program is presented in partnership with the Native Plant Society of Northeastern Ohio and Geauga Master Gardeners. No registration is required.
