I had a maple–maybe a Japanese maple–sprout in a neglected pot, and it looked a lot like that. In the Pacific Northwest.

I am pretty sure this is a maple, based on the wing-looking leaves. Were there red maples or maybe water maples where you were?

According to a plant app, it’s possibly a Boxelder, in the Maple family.

You also have something called a Field Maple That is native to Scotland

Looks like some type of *Acer* to me. Some maples make COPIOUS seeds and I have personally pulled probably a few hundred thousand seedlings out of the ground over the years. So I’m very familiar with what they look like. Could be boxelder, red maple, sycamore maple, norway maple, … really any large maple.
